Amaravati: This Dasara, Andhra Pradesh camp office will shift to Visakhapatnam. On Wednesday, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's Cabinet approved shifting the camp office.

It has been decided to shift the administration from Vijayawada to Visakhapatnam and begin governance from the port city from Vijaya Dasami. However, there is no clarity on which departments would be shifting to Visakhapatnam first.

According to a note released by Minister Chellaboyina Gopalakrishna, Jagan has asked his cabinet colleagues and the government offices to get prepared for beginning administration from the new office. Meanwhile, they would appoint a committee and decide on setting up government offices.

Earlier, on January 31, Jagan announced that Visakhapatnam will be the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, and he will also shift to the city. Even during the recent Global Investors Summit 2023, Jagan Mohan Reddy said Visakhapatnam, which will be the Executive Capital, will help in the Ease of Doing Business. He invited the delegates to visit Vizag and see the investment opportunities.

Sources from the Chief Minister Office (CMO) said the CM camp office will most likely be in Rushikonda, where the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department is building a facility. A resort run by the APTDC was demolished in February 2022. The state government has planned to construct a 5-storeyed hotel cum resort at Rs 190 crore. While new buildings are being constructed on Rushikonda Hill, some of the buildings will be allocated for the state government offices, including the CM's office. Officials are said to be planning to house some departments in the buildings used by IT companies at IT Sez and Rushikonda.

Meanwhile, the YSRCP government coming up with the three capital proposals, with Visakhapatnam being the executive capital, is still a question mark. Jagan planned to create three capitals for Andhra Pradesh – executive capital at Visakhapatnam, judicial capital at Kurnool and legislative capital at Amaravati–before his tenure in May 2024. The matter is still pending in court as a batch of petitions was filed against the shifting of capital from Amaravati.
