By S. Harpal Singh Published on 6 Sep 2024 11:08 AM GMTAdilabad: Though tension was in the air, Jainoor mandal headquarters in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district remained peaceful on Friday. The police had deployed over 1,000 policemen including those from the Rapid Action Force and imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 BNSS to control any violence.
The Internet remained suspended aimed at restoring peace at the earliest. Patrolling of pockets which are considered to be sensitive was done by the police.
Violence from assault claims
Jainoor was hit by incidents of violence on September 4 when angry protesting tribals had caused damage to property belonging to one particular community following protests against the attempted rape and murder of a tribal woman. The community in question had also damaged the property of another community in retaliation.
Top police officials continued to monitor the tribal areas from close quarters in KB Asifabad and Adilabad districts. While the ADG Law and Order was stationed at Utnoor, the nerve centre of all tribal activity, the North Zone IG Chandrashekhar Reddy was camping at Jainoor and Adilabad SP Ghaush Alam was present at Ichoda mandal headquarters.
Bandh call
A bandh was observed in important mandal headquarters in the tribal belt like Ichoda, Gudihatnoor, Indervelli and Narnoor. The bandh was called by tribal organisations demanding capital punishment for the accused of the attempted rape and murder of a tribal woman on August 31.
Commercial activity was open in Utnoor and Shyampur villages.
