Hyderabad police have arrested a BJP leader for cheating a student of Rs 48.53 lakhs on the pretext of arranging an MBBS seat. Identified as K Satish Kumar, he had unsuccessfully contested assembly elections from Jangoan. Police have booked him under section 406, 420, 465, 468, and 471 read with 34 of IPC.

A realtor by profession, the 32-year-old accused took Rs 48, 53,000 for the complainant's daughter promising to arrange an MBBS seat at Mamatha Academy of Medical Sciences, Bachupally.

Police said he created fake allotment orders when the victim pressurized for the money. The accused issued two cheques which bounced due to insufficient funds in the account.

Police said K.Satish Kumar has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
