Hyderabad: Ahead of the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-poll, Election Flying Squads and police raided the residences of two senior Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders on Friday.
The surprise raids triggered a sharp reaction from the party, which alleged a political vendetta by the ruling dispensation.
Searches at former MLA Marri Janardhan Reddy’s house
Early on Friday, election officials carried out inspections at the Mothinagar residence of former BRS MLA Marri Janardhan Reddy.
Sources said the searches were conducted to verify complaints of possible violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), which is in force in view of the by-election.
Officials reportedly examined documents and personal belongings as part of the inspection, though no major seizures were reported till late in the day.

MLC Ravinder Rao’s residence also searched
In a separate development, BRS MLC Takkellapalli Ravinder Rao’s residence in BSP Colony, Kukatpally, was also subjected to searches by police teams.
The MLC questioned the legality of the operation, pointing out that his residence lies outside the jurisdiction of the election code.
“There is no election code in force in my area. How can the police enter my house without proper authority?” Ravinder Rao asked, terming the action as “unwarranted and politically motivated.”
BRS alleges misuse of official machinery
The BRS condemned the searches, calling them part of a larger plan to intimidate opposition leaders ahead of polling day.
Party sources said they would take up the issue with the Election Commission of India, seeking a probe into what they described as “selective enforcement” of the election code.
Meanwhile, election authorities have maintained that all searches are being conducted strictly as per EC guidelines to ensure free and fair polling in the Jubilee Hills constituency on November 11.
Further details about the outcome of the raids are awaited.
