K Ramakrishna Rao is new Chief Secretary of Telangana
Hyderabad: K Ramakrishna Rao, a 1991 batch IAS officer, who is at present Special Chief Secretary, Finance Department, has been appointed as Chief Secretary to the Government of Telangana.
Ramakrishna Rao will replace A Santhi Kumari, who will be retiring from service on attaining the age of superannuation on April 30, according to a GO issued on Sunday. Since 2016, Ramakrishna Rao has been working in a crucial role in the finance department. He is set to retire in August 2025.
Ramakrishna Rao has presented all the 10 budgets of the new state made so far and has mobilized resources required for the flagship schemes of the state. He has successfully introduced various financial systems in the state, leading to enhanced financial control and transparency.
In addition, the senior officer also holds charge of the State Reorganization Department, dealing with all matters related to the formation of the new state of Telangana. He also worked as Director General of the Center for Good Governance (CGG). As DG, he was involved with a number of reform programs mainly based on IT in several states of the country.
Ramakrishna Rao has held leadership positions in the fields of Education, Healthcare and was Collector and District Magistrate of Adilabad and Guntur in United Andhra Pradesh. He holds graduate and Masterās degrees in engineering from the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) at Kanpur and Delhi and also an MBA in Investments.
