Kaleshwaram Project: Justice Ghosh commission summons KCR on June 5; notices sent to Harish Rao, Eatala

Hyderabad: The Justice PC Ghosh Commission, probing alleged irregularities in the construction of barrages under the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, has issued notices to former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), former Irrigation minister T Harish Rao, and BJP MP and former finance minister Eatala Rajender.

The commission has directed all three to appear before it for questioning, setting separate dates for their appearance—KCR on June 5, Harish Rao on June 6, and Eatala Rajender on June 9.

The notices come in the wake of technical failures, including the sinking of the Medigadda barrage, prompting a deeper investigation into project design, execution and financial oversight.

Testimonies say decisions taken on the direct instructions of CM

Formed in March 2024 and led by former Supreme Court judge Justice PC Ghosh, the commission has been examining various aspects of the project, including construction quality, design standards, financial management and departmental accountability.

Several top officials who appeared before the panel reportedly stated that many decisions were made under the direct instructions of the then chief minister and senior ministers.

The State government has extended the commission’s term seven times, with the current deadline set to expire by the end of May. The tenure of the commission was extended on Monday by two months till July 31.

Given the testimonies and the scale of the infrastructure involved, the commission now seeks clarifications directly from key political figures who oversaw the project during its execution.
