Uday Krishna Reddy from Prakasam district secured the 780th rank. He served as a police constable in the Andhra Pradesh police department from 2013 to 2018. Reportedly, the Circle Inspector humiliated him due to a personal grudge. This incident motivated Reddy to leave his job and pursue a career as an IAS officer.
Uday's parents Srinivas and Jayamma died when he was a child. It was his grandmother Ravanamma who raised him. Since childhood, he studied only in Telugu medium government schools.
Uday got a job as a police constable in 2012 when he was in his BA final year. He joined the service in 2013. "I always dreamed of UPSC but I couldn't quit my job. But one day, I was intentionally humiliated by CI in front of 60 policemen. For almost one hour he gave me extra punishment and said I was just a constable. It was then I decided to top in UPSC. I resigned from the job the same day and started preparing for UPSC Civil Services," said Uday speaking to the media.
However, Uday doesn't have any plans to take revenge. He said that Karma will make the person realize their mistakes.
According to Uday, 90% of staff in the police department are in lower ranks and those bear the department's pressure but do not get any recognition.
"I am interested in the health and environmental sector for the love of animals. I want to set up a centralized emergency rescue and rehabilitation mechanism for animals along the lines of 108 emergency services for humans. Enforcement against animal abuse and killings will be made strict," said Uday who got rank in his fourth attempt.
This year, a total of 1,016 candidates (664 men and 352 women) have qualified for the prestigious civil services examination and have been recommended by the UPSC for appointment to various services including IAS, IPS, and IFS.
