New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has a new director after the competent authority approved the appointment of Praveen Sood for a period of two years.
Mr. Sood, who is currently serving as the director general of police (DGP) in Karnataka, will take charge as the new CBI chief following the completion of Subodh Kumar Jaiswal’s tenure.
The selection committee, comprising the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of India, and the Leader of the Opposition, had finalised Mr. Sood’s name for the coveted post.
Mr. Sood, who belongs to the 1986 batch of IPS officers of the Karnataka cadre, is expected to bring his vast experience and expertise to the CBI and steer the agency toward greater heights.
The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions (Department of Personnel & Training) conveyed its approval of the appointment through an order dated 14 May 2023.
The official notification stated that Mr. Sood’s appointment as the new director of the CBI will be effective from the date he assumes charge of the office.
