Addressing the media, Mr. Kasi Reddy said, "The public has a lot of expectations from the police. Keeping this in view, the police have to take responsibility. Whoever is at fault, the entire police system gets a bad name." He appreciated the former DGP Gautam Sawang for his use of technology in solving cases and evidence-based policing. The new DGP said he was inspired by Mr. Sawang's work.
Mr. Kasi Reddy, a 1992-batch IPS officer, was the director-general of police (Intelligence) since May 2020. Earlier, he had worked in various positions, including DCP East Zone in Hyderabad, Vijayawada Railway SP, and Vijayawada city police commissioner. Before taking over as the Intelligence chief, he had held the posts of director-general, Vigilance and Enforcement, and ex-officio principal secretary to the government.
Meanwhile, a farewell ceremony was organised for the outgoing DGP Mr. Sawang.
Mr. Sawang said, "During my term as DGP, I made efforts to make policing friendly. I faced many challenges. We were able to make women file cases through the Disha app instead of directly coming to the police station." He added that during his term, 36% of cases were reported through the app and 75% of the registered cases were produced in court and punishment imposed.
Mr. Sawang has been appointed the chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission.
