Hyderabad: Former BRS MLC and Jagruti President K Kavitha has been issued a notice by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) about the Delhi Liquor Policy case, asking her to appear before the Delhi High Court on March 16 at 10:30 am.
The court notice was issued on a petition filed by the CBI. Kavitha has been asked to appear before the court. If she fails to appear, the court may proceed with the hearing in her absence, the notice said.
Kavitha may not appear for the hearing
Sources close to the case told NewsMeter that Kavitha may not appear in person before the High Court on March 16. “The case is dismissed in the trial court; whatever the CBI and ED do, the evidence will be the same which was produced in the lower court. It is for the probing agency to once again prove itself,” said the source.
Two officials from the CBI visited the residence of Kavitha in Hyderabad and handed over the notice on Thursday. This is the first development in the case after a lower court discharged all 23 accused in the Delhi Liquor Policy case.
Confirming the notice, Kavitha took her to X handle and said, “I have been served a notice by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at around 12.30 PM today, informing me of the petition being presented in the Hon’ble High Court on 16/03/26. I am in consultation with my legal team and will respond appropriately through official channels. As someone who is confident that truth will prevail, I intend to fully cooperate with the legal machinery. Serving a notice when an appeal is filed by the investigating agency in a higher court is the prescribed legal procedure and I would request all the relevant stakeholders to NOT misinterpret this in anyway that could dent the sanctity of our legal framework.”
The CBI’s petition
In the Delhi High Court, the CBI strongly challenged the trial court’s order discharging former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia in the Delhi Liquor Policy case.
Meanwhile, the ED has moved the Delhi High Court, seeking that the remarks made against it in the trial court order be expunged.
