Hyderabad: Union MoS Home Bandi Sanjay summoned as witness in phone tapping case
Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has accused former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) of phone tapping.
The accusation has come at a time when he has been summoned as a witness in the ongoing investigation.
Given Bandi Sanjay's ministerial position, the SIT will record his statement at the Dilkush Government Guest House in Hyderabad as per his request.
‘KCR did the crime, I get the invitation’
Reacting to a notice issued by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) seeking his statement on July 24, Bandi Sanjay wrote on X: “KCR did the crime of phone tapping & now I got the invitation as witness. My phone, my family’s, my staff’s, no one was spared. That’s how low they stooped.”
SIT issues notice under CrPC Section 160
In a notice issued under Section 160 of CrPC, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Jubilee Hills) P Venkatagiri requested Bandi Sanjay to intimate his convenient date and time for examination.
“During investigation, it has been learnt that you are acquainted with certain facts and circumstances which are relevant to the investigation of this case,” he said.
Minister vows full cooperation
Bandi Sanjay assured that he would fully cooperate with SIT, stating, “The truth will come out. Satyameva Jayate.” He also said that his PRO, Pasunuru Madhu, personal assistant Boinipalli Praveen Rao, and former PA Pogula Tirupati, have also been summoned for questioning on the same day.
Other political leaders examined
Leaders, including Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud and BJP MP and former minister Eatala Rajender, have already deposed before the SIT as witnesses.
Allegations against SIB under the BRS rule
The phone tapping allegations surfaced in March last year, months after BRS lost power to the Congress. Police arrested four officers in the case, who were later released on bail.
Former State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) chief Prabhakar Rao, the main accused, returned from the US last month following Supreme Court directions and has been questioned multiple times by the SIT.
It is alleged that during the BRS rule, a team within the SIB tapped the phones of opposition leaders, BRS dissidents, businesspersons, celebrities, journalists, and judges.
Bandi questions silence on KCR, KTR
Earlier, Bandi Sanjay had criticised the Congress government for not issuing notices to KCR and his son KT Rama Rao (KTR). “Is there an internal understanding between Congress and BRS? Why are they protecting each other?” he asked.
