Hyderabad: Union Minister of Tourism and Culture G Kishan Reddy accused the Telangana government of being "dictatorial, anarchic, and wicked."
In a press conference held on Wednesday night, Reddy alleged that the KCR government is restricting protests, taking illegal arrests, and suppressing freedom of speech. He claimed that Telangana is back in the days of the emergency. He criticized the government for banning media organizations and preventing journalists from discharging their duties.
The minister expressed concern over the recent arrest of Bandi Sanjay in the paper leak case. He alleged that the police took him without giving him time to take his medication.
Kishan Reddy claimed that the police were targeting Bandi Sanjay Kumar for highlighting KCR's failures in addressing the leak of TSPSC papers.
āBandi Sanjay Kumar received a 10th-class question paper on WhatsApp much after it was leaked. It was already being run on television news channels. Hence, his arrest is totally anti-democratic,ā he claimed.
He also questioned whether there was anything wrong with party leaders having friendly connections with members of the media. He emphasized that sharing information should not be considered a criminal offence.
"We had positive relationships with numerous media persons. Both the media and opposition parties are entitled to exchange information. It is how a democracy operates, and we will continue to question the government," he said.
Kishan Reddy said the government may have detained their party chief, but they cannot prevent them from fighting for the rights of the people. āThis arrest is part of the government's larger plan to divert attention from their failures, as the youth are furious over the TSPSC leaks. The more the government tries to crush us, the stronger we will become," he said.
He added: "Our party will fight a legal as well as a political battle against the government. We will not be intimidated by their actions."
Speaking about the BRS in Delhi, Kishan said: "We don't have leaders in Delhi like KCR without work. Prime Minister only attends government programs. Whatever the government does, we won't be afraid. Even if a hundred KCRs come, BJP is not scared. Political party events should not be taken lightly or treated as mere stunts."
He said his party is not interested in destabilizing the government. āIf business magnates like Tata and Ambani were interested in entering politics through financial investment, they could have become Prime Ministers long back,ā he said.
