Hyderabad: Former Chief Minister and BRS president Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) is leading a team of star campaigners announced by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Tuesday for the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency by-election.

The party has strategically included several former ministers and senior MLAs to strengthen its campaign in this high-profile constituency with around 3.99 lakh voters.

Male voters outnumber female voters

Jubilee Hills is also one of the rare constituencies where male voters outnumber female voters. The constituency has 2.07 lakh male voters compared to 1.91 lakh female voters, resulting in a gender ratio of 924 women for every 1,000 men.

Background: Bypoll necessitated by Gopinath’s death

The by-election was necessitated following the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath in June this year. The BRS has fielded his wife, Maganti Sunitha, as its candidate to retain the family’s hold over the constituency.

The ruling Congress has nominated Naveen Yadav, while the BJP has also entered the fray by fielding Lankala Deepak Reddy as its candidate, setting the stage for a three-cornered contest.

Meanwhile, political heat is rising as BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha has filed four sets of nomination papers for the Jubilee Hills Assembly bypoll, slated for November 11. Similarly, Naveen Yadav and Deepak Reddy have also submitted their nominations, adding to the growing contest.

40 star campaigners approved

The Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C Sudharshan Reddy has approved a total of 40 star campaigners proposed by BRS General Secretary Somi Bharat Kumar.

Vehicle passes have been granted to these leaders to facilitate door-to-door outreach and constituency-wide campaigning. The electioneering period runs from October 18 to November 9, 2025, concluding at 6 pm.

Heavyweights on the campaign trail

Alongside KCR, BRS is mobilising several influential leaders:

Former Ministers: K Taraka Rama Rao, T Harish Rao, T Srinivas Yadav, T Padma Rao Goud, Mahmud Ali, V Prashanth Reddy, V Srinivas Goud, S Niranjan Reddy, G Jagadeesh Reddy, Gangula Kamalakar, Sabita Indra Reddy, and others.

Senior MLAs and former legislators: D Sudheer Reddy, Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Bandaru Lakshma Reddy, Marri Rajasekhar Reddy, Chinta Prabhakar and more.

Key leaders and party functionaries: Padma Devender Reddy, RS Praveen Kumar, Rao Sreedhar Reddy, Tata Madhusudhan, Anil Jadhav, L Ramana, Shakil Amir Mohammad, Takkalapalli Ravinder Rao and Sheikh Abdullah Sohail.

Significance of Jubilee Hills bypoll to BRS

Jubilee Hills is a prestigious urban constituency in Telangana, symbolically important for the party’s image in Hyderabad. A win would strengthen BRS’s urban appeal, consolidate voter support and reinforce the party’s dominance in the region.

The party is deploying top leaders like KCR to ensure a decisive campaign.

Backup candidate filed by BRS

In a surprise development, P Vishnuvardhan Reddy, son of former minister P Janardhan Reddy, filed two sets of nomination papers on behalf of the BRS on Saturday.

He is seen as a standby candidate in case the nomination of the official BRS nominee, Maganti Sunitha Gopinath, is rejected for any reason. If needed, Vishnuvardhan Reddy will have until October 22, the last date for withdrawal of nominations, to submit the official B Form.

Strategic push in a crucial constituency

By roping in former ministers and senior legislators, BRS aims to maximise voter outreach and consolidate support in Jubilee Hills.

The inclusion of KCR and other high-profile leaders underscores the party’s commitment to a high-impact campaign in one of Telangana’s most politically significant constituencies, sources from the BRS party said.
