KCR slams Congress, TDP over Palamuru neglect; Announces statewide agitation

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), accusing them of systematically neglecting and betraying the Palamuru region during their long years in power.

Speaking at a media conference at Telangana Bhavan, KCR said Palamuru suffered the worst injustice during the united Andhra Pradesh era, despite its strategic importance and natural water resources.

‘AP formation a curse for Telangana, especially Palamuru’

KCR said the formation of Andhra Pradesh itself proved disastrous for Telangana, with Palamuru bearing the brunt of neglect. He said the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project was the central issue discussed in the meeting, alleging betrayal by both the Centre and successive state governments.

Entitled to 174 TMC, yet denied water

Highlighting historical facts, KCR said Palamuru district was entitled to 174 TMC feet of water for irrigation projects. He pointed out that the Krishna river flows for nearly 300 kilometres through the district, yet its rightful share was never ensured.

Bachawat Tribunal allocations ignored

Referring to the Bachawat Tribunal, KCR said Palamuru’s case was clearly mentioned in its award. In 1974, the tribunal had suo motu allocated 17 TMC of water to the Jurala project. “Despite this, no government bothered to implement the tribunal’s allocations,” he said.

Priority to Palamuru after Telangana formation

KCR said that after the formation of Telangana, the BRS government conducted a comprehensive review of irrigation projects and accorded top priority to Palamuru. He claimed that projects left pending during the TDP regime were revived and converted into running projects.

Water to 6.5 lakh acres

As a result of these efforts, KCR said irrigation water was provided to nearly 6.5 lakh acres in Palamuru district, marking a major turnaround for a region that had remained drought-prone for decades.

Congress government totally corrupt, says KCR; Announces mass agitation over Palamuru projects

KCR also launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led Telangana government, accusing it of corruption, administrative failure, and neglect of crucial irrigation projects in the Palamuru region.

The BRS president alleged that even after two years in power, the Congress government had failed to make any progress on the Palamuru Lift Irrigation Project.

‘Not even a shovel of soil lifted’

KCR said detailed data on irrigation tanks in Palamuru district had been submitted to the Centre, but the BJP-led Union government allegedly obstructed Telangana’s interests after being influenced by TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu.

“Even an inefficient government should at least continue existing projects. But not even a single shovel of soil has been lifted in Palamuru in the last two years,” he said.

Allegations of land sales, water mismanagement

Accusing the state government of prioritising land sales over public welfare, KCR said it had failed to safeguard Telangana’s rightful share of river water.

“What kind of government writes to the Centre saying that just 40 TMC of water is enough for Palamuru?” he questioned, calling it a grave betrayal of farmers and drought-hit regions.

Mass movement planned across three districts

The BRS chief announced a large-scale public agitation against both the Centre and the State governments. He said village-level mobilisation and massive public meetings would be organised across Palamuru, Rangareddy, and Nalgonda districts.

“I will personally attend these meetings. We have given the government enough time. We will not remain silent anymore,” KCR asserted.

‘Will fight for Telangana at any cost’

Declaring that he had decided to personally lead the movement, KCR said the party would expose the alleged injustice being done to Telangana’s irrigation interests.

“Till today, it was one story. From tomorrow, it will be another. We will fight for Telangana at any cost, without any hesitation. This Congress government is completely corrupt,” he concluded.
