Lok Sabha polls 2024: KCR announces first list

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrashekar Rao on Monday announced the first list of four candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections from Telangana.

KCR nominated B Vinod Kumar from Karimnagar, Koppula Eshwar from Peddapalli, Nama Nageswara Rao from Khammam and Maloth Kavitha from Mahabubabad Parliamentary constituencies.

The BRS president convened a meeting with the key leaders of the four Parliamentary constituencies on Sunday and Monday at Telangana Bhavan.

During the meeting, KCR took the opinions of the leaders on the selection of candidates. The key leaders also felt that the names of four candidates should be released in this sequence in the initial release after reaching a consensus.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the BRS wrote, “After discussing with the main leaders of the respective parliamentary constituencies for the last two days, the leader (KCR) announced the four candidates as per the collective decision.”

In the first list, KCR had once again given a chance to B Vinod Kumar to contest on behalf of the BRS from Karimnagar despite his defeat by BJP candidate Bandi Sanjay Kumar in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. When it comes to Peddapalli Parliamentary constituency, the BRS president nominated former Minister for BC welfare Koppula Eshwar as an MP candidate as the party's sitting MP Venkatesh Netha Borlakunta switched his loyalties to the Congress on February 6.

In Khammam and Mahabubabad Parliamentary constituencies, KCR had once again given chances to the sitting MPs Nama Nageswara Rao and Maloth Kavitha. A large-scale public gathering in Karimnagar on March 12 will mark the official start of the BRS party's Lok Sabha election campaign. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BRS won nine MP seats in the state, of which three MPs switched their loyalties to other parties.

Recently, sitting MP P Ramulu of Nagarkurnool and BB Patil of Zaheerabad switched their loyalties to the BJP from the BRS. The BJP nominated BB Patil from Zaheerabad and P Ramulu’s son Bharat was given a chance to contest on behalf of the saffron party from the Nagarkurnool parliamentary constituency.
