Police visited the spot and evacuated about 30 houses located 300 meters away from the incident

Prakasam: It was a narrow escape for the lorry driver after a vehicle carrying hundreds of Bharat gas cylinders blasted, due to a short circuit. The incident happened near Daddawada village, in Komarolu Mandal, Prakasam district during the wee hours on 2 September, Friday.

The lorry with gas cylinders is being transported from Kurnool to Ulavapadu in the Prakasam district.

"There were around 306 gas cylinders in the lorry. When I reached Daddawada village on the national highway, I found smoke coming from the bonnet. Within seconds I stopped the vehicle. Flames were emanating from the vehicle. I immediately ran away to save myself," Lorry Driver Mohan Rao said. Soon after the incident, the driver rushed to the local village and alerted the people. Police visited the spot and evacuated about 30 houses located 300 meters away from the incident


Gidduluru Circle Inspector Firoz said the incident happened between Daddawada-Gundreddipalli national highway, which is a safe area with no habitation around. "The driver couldn't use fire extinguishers due to the high flames. It took almost three hours to bring the situation under control," he said. Police diverted the traffic to avoid casualties.
