Make AP pothole-free state, start work on road repairs: Jagan to officials

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday directed officials to take up road repair works in cities and municipalities on a priority basis and make AP a pothole-free state.

During the review meeting held at the camp office here, the Chief Minister asked the officials to start road repair works immediately, especially filling all the potholes and repairing a stretch of 46,000 km of roads across the state. He said roads should be pothole-free and repaired so that motorists can begin using them by June 2022. Jagan asked the officials to focus on roads with maximum damage and immediately start the works.

The officials informed the CM that there was a delay in repair works due to the continuous rains and assured him that work would start on 8,268 km of road by the end of this month after finalizing the tenders. They assured Jagan that all repairs would be completed between December and June.

The Chief Minister also directed the officials to cover all bridges and flyovers and make plans to bring ROBs and bridges under phase I. He asked them to focus on restoring roads and taking pictures before and after repairing the roads, similar to the Nadu-Nedu scheme. Concentrate on repairs and maintenance of existing roads before starting construction of new roads, he told the officials and asked them to prepare an action plan on expenditure and funds required.

As Union Home minister Nitin Gadkari is scheduled to visit the state next month, the Chief Minister directed the officials to chart out the pending projects that are to be resolved. Further, he instructed them to blacklist contractors who had bagged the tenders for NDB projects but had not started works. He said notices should be issued to such contractors.
