Telangana: Mamnoor Airport in Warangal gets Centre nod; Hyderabad Airport modifies its rule

Hyderabad: Minister for Roads and Buildings and Cinematography Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said that the Central government has granted permission for the construction of Mamnoor Airport in the Warangal District.

The minister said that the Union Civil Aviation Ministry secretary Amit Kumar Jha has informed the chairman of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) through a letter granting permission to Mamnoor Airport. He said that the Central government has responded positively to the request of AAI as per the orders of the State government to develop Mamnoor Airport and resume operations.

Hyderabad Airport issued NOC for Mamnoor Airport

Komatireddy said that Hyderabad International Airport Limited (HIAL) issued a ā€˜No Objection Certificateā€™ (NOC) for the development of Mamnoor Airport. He said, in a statement, that with this, the construction of Mamnoor Airport will move forward more quickly.

He said the issuance of NOC was conveyed to the chairman of the AAI and Amit Kumar Jha in letters sent by the Telangana Government on November 17 and December 5 last year.

Telangana government gave 253 acres for the development of Mamnoor Airport

Komatireddy said they consulted with the management of GMR and got the NOC issued. HAIL issued the NOC, amending the 150-km rule that was an obstacle to the development of Mamnoor Airport. The minister said that now the Central government has officially approved this NOC.

Moreover, the minister recalled that the Telangana Government had earlier released Rs 205 crore for handing over 253 acres of additional land required for the development of Mamnoor Airport to the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Komatireddy expressed happiness over the receipt of all the necessary permissions for the airport.

What is the rule of the Hyderabad Airport that was amended for Mamnoor Airport?

While constructing the Hyderabad Greenfield Airport, HIAL had entered into an agreement with the Central Government that under Clause 5.2, no new domestic/international airport would be allowed within a radius of 150 km within 25 years from the existing airport. As a result, no new airport has been constructed in the State to date.

However, at the request of Minister Komatireddy, HAIL convened a meeting of its board of directors and approved the development of Mamnoor Airport.
