Nellore: In a man-made tragedy, eight people have died and many others have been injured following a stampede like situation occured during the Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandra Babu Naidu's roadshow in Nellore district.
The incident happened when huge crowd attending the meeting tried to navigate throw narrow lanes. While a few fell into a drain. Primary Investigation found that, the TDP campaign team changed the enroute, navigating through narrow lanes and by lanes. This resulted in a stampede like situation leading to eight deaths.
Naidu has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakhs each to the families of the deceased. And medical treatment for those who have been injured. The deceased are yet to be identified and an official communication from the Superintendent of Office is awaited.
The injured have been admitted to Kandukuri General hospital. While the death toll reached eight, another few are battling for life in the hospital.
Naidu stopped the public meeting, and is said to visit the hospital.
