Amaravati: Mangalagiri MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy who defeated TDP leader Lokesh in 2019 polls has resigned from YSRCP and also as an MLA. This would be a big political development ahead of the polls in Andhra Pradesh.

He submitted his resignation to Andhra Pradesh assembly speaker.

Speaking to the media after his resignation, he said, “I resigned from the post of MLA and from party membership due to personal reasons. I submitted the letter in the speaker’s office and asked the speaker to approve it.” He thanked the people of Mangalagiri for electing him twice. “Though it is painful, it is necessary to take a harsh decision. The resignation was submitted in speaker format. As the Speaker was not available, the resignation was submitted to his OSD,” he said speaking to the media.

Ramakrishna also thanked Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for giving an opportunity to contest twice.

He said that he would disclose his future course of action very soon.

He is apparently not happy with the political developments in the recent past. Sources said, the MLA has been disappointed for he was not accommodated in the second cabinet reshuffle. Further, he was also fighting for not releasing funds for the development of his constituency as promised by the YSRCP party chief and Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Ramakrishna has served as the Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (AP CRDA) from June 2019 until its reorganisation to form Amaravati Metropolitan Region Development Authority (AMRDA) on August 1, 2020.

Ramakrishna Reddy was the petitioner in the cash-for-vote case against former Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana CM A Revanth Reddy.

He moved to Supreme Court to include the name of Naidu in the 2015 ‘Cash for vote’ case and appealed to the Apex court that the name of Naidu was mentioned 22 times in the chargesheet filed by Telangana ACB and his name must be included in the case. The political scandal started when Revanth Reddy was then in TDP was caught in video footage, aired in the media, offering bribes to a BRS (then TRS) nominated MLA, Elvis Stephenson, for his vote in the 2015 elections of the Telangana Legislative Council. In a phone call to the MLC, Naidu allegedly offered him a bribe to cross-vote.

Ramakrishna was very vocal against the TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s residence at Undavalli and even lodged a complaint alleging a quid pro quo took place between Naidu and Lingamaneni Ramesh, owner of the house.
