Medak custodial death: Telangana High Court issues notice to state
The CJ Division Bench issued notices to the Telangana government and to the police authorities concerned to file a counter affidavit.

Tukaramji heard the suo motu writ petition pertaining to the death of Mohammad Qadeer, a daily wage worker from Medak, who died in police custody in Medak.
The Chief Justice Division Bench on Tuesday issued notices to the chief secretary, principal secretary (Home), DGP, Medak SP, DSP Medak, and the SHO of the Medak police station.
The High Court has taken up the suo motu writ petition based on a newspaper item in an English Daily on 19 February regarding the custodial death issue.
Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan said there were allegations from the family members that Mohammad Qadeer (35) was detained in the Medak police station on 27 January in connection with an alleged incident of chain snatching and he was subjected to torture during the detention period.
On 3 February, due to his deteriorating health conditions, Qadeer was hospitalised in Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad, where he died on 16 February.
Additional advocate general J. Ramchandra Rao informed the court that the incident took place within 14 days after Qadeer was produced before the executive magistrate.
The Chief Justice, after hearing the contention of the additional AG, said the family members of Qadeer have alleged custodial death. The CJ Division Bench issued notices to the state government and to the police authorities concerned to file a counter affidavit.
The matter was adjourned to 14 March.
