Medak custodial death: Victim’s wife moves HC seeking Rs 50 lakhs compensation

Qadeer, a daily wage worker from Medak who died in police custody, filed a lunch motion writ petition before the Single Bench of Justice Bollam Vijaysen Reddy, seeking a direction to the BRS government to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to inquire into the unlawful detention and torture of her husband that eventually led to his death.
Further, Siddeshwari, Qadeer’s wife, sought compensation of Rs. 50 lakhs and a direction to the Medak superintendent of police to freeze the entire CCTV footage that shows the police subjecting Qadeer to third-degree torture.
Justice Bollam Vijaysen Reddy heard the writ petition filed by Siddheshwari.
A. Santosh Kumar, special government pleader, informed the court that on Tuesday morning, the Division Bench headed by the Chief Justice had adjudicated the suo motu writ petition on the same issue and issued notices to the state government and other police officers, seeking their response by 14 March.
The judge, after hearing the contentions of the special GP, directed the registry to tag the writ petition with the suo motu writ petition for further adjudication.
