Hyderabad: In a significant development in the sensational Moinabad farmhouse drugs case, the Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) B Shivadhar Reddy, IPS, has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The SIT has been assigned to conduct a comprehensive probe into the case involving narcotics, illegal arms and other serious offences. It has been asked to file a chargesheet within three months.

Directive for in-depth probe

The DGP has instructed the SIT to thoroughly investigate all aspects of the case and ‘go to the bottom’ of the offence. The team has been asked to maintain high professional standards while probing possible links to larger drug networks.

Rohit Reddy and two others were remanded

The SIT formation comes in the backdrop of the arrest of former BRS MLA Pilot Rohit Reddy and two others in connection with the case.

Rohit Reddy, his brother Ritesh Reddy and Delhi-based businessman Namith Sharma were produced before a magistrate at Upperpally, who remanded them to 14 days of judicial custody after hearing arguments from both prosecution and defence.

EAGLE raid at farmhouse

The case came to light following a raid by the EAGLE Force on March 14 at a farmhouse belonging to Rohit Reddy at Moinabad on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

Acting on specific intelligence, officials raided the premises where several individuals had allegedly gathered for a party involving narcotic and psychotropic substances along with large quantities of liquor.

A total of 11 persons, including a woman, were detained for questioning during the raid.

MP Putta Mahesh Kumar and seven others released on bail

Police said six of those detained tested positive for drug consumption, including Rohit Reddy and TDP MP Putta Mahesh Kumar from Eluru in Andhra Pradesh.

However, Putta Mahesh Kumar and seven others were later released on station bail after being served notices as part of the ongoing investigation.

Firing during raid

According to police, the accused Namith Sharma allegedly opened fire using a revolver during the raid. The weapon is said to be a licensed .32 calibre revolver belonging to Ritesh Reddy.

Police seized the firearm along with live and empty cartridges. Another accused, Silveri Sharath Kumar, was reportedly found holding empty cartridge cases at the scene.

Drugs and liquor seized

During the search, officials recovered a small quantity of cocaine (0.26 grams) from Sharath Kumar, who allegedly confessed to procuring it through a supplier identified as Kaushik Ravi.

Authorities also seized large quantities of liquor, including beer, whisky, vodka and several premium brands from the farmhouse.

Multiple serious charges

The case (Crime No. 150/2026) registered at Moinabad Police Station includes offences under:

NDPS Act (Sections 8(c), 22(a), 27, 29)

Arms Act, 1959 (Sections 25(1B)(a), 27, 30)

Telangana State Excise Act

Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)

Focus on a larger network

Police suspect the involvement of a wider drug distribution network operating in and around the Moinabad–Shamshabad region and are probing the source of narcotics and links to other individuals.

Officials said the formation of the SIT reflects the seriousness of the case and the government’s resolve to crack down on drug abuse and organised crime.
