By Newsmeter Network Published on 24 July 2023 12:04 PM GMTHyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad issued a red alert for Telangana State on Monday with a forecast of heavy to very heavy rains till July 27. Similarly, heavy to very heavy rains predicted at several parts of Andhra Pradesh.
“Moderate rainfall and heavy spells are expected in Hyderabad over the next 24 hours from July 25. For that period, an orange warning has been issued for Hyderabad and a red warning for the state. Hyderabad will most likely have moderate to heavy rain,” said Dr K Nagaratna, director of the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre.
The IMD predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Telangana from July 25-27 due to a low-pressure system centred over South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh’s coasts in the West Central Bay of Bengal, as well as an associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level.
“Another upper-air seismic zone is located around 20 degrees north latitude over the North Chhattisgarh region and the east-west wind shear zone. Under the influence of these synoptic features, Telangana is likely to have widespread rainfall, light to moderate rains over many districts, and heavy rain over a few places between 7 cm to 12 cm and above 12 cm at one or two places in northern Telangana over the next 24 hours,” she said.
“Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Komaram Bheem, and Mancherial are all likely to have 12 cm to 20 cm or more than 20 cm of rain at one or two locations. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Jagtial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, and surrounding districts, coupled with light to moderate rainfall in several locations,” the IMD informed.
Weather in Andhra Pradesh
Heavy rain has been issued for the next four days in Andhra Pradesh. The Indian Meteorological Centre in Amaravati has anticipated heavy to very heavy rainfall in the districts of Bapatla, Palnadu, Krishna, Guntur, Eluru, and Alluri Sitaramaraju, as well as certain portions of Rayalaseema.
Thunderstorm activity with lightning can be seen in isolated areas. Strong gusts of 30-40 km/h are expected in isolated areas.
According to the IMD, the cyclonic circulation is currently over across west-central and bordering the northwest Bay of Bengal off the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coastlines and extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, dipping southwards with height.
A low-pressure area is predicted to emerge over the same region in the following 24 hours as a result of its impact. Around July 26, 2023, the system is expected to consolidate into a depression over the same area. As a result, it is expected to travel slowly west-northwest through the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha beaches.
At 3.1 km above mean sea level, the cyclonic circulation over south Odisha and its surroundings has become less prominent.
Earlier on Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red notice for severe to very heavy rainfall in the Palghar district, as well as an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts for the next 24 hours.
