A deposit of Rs 50,000 per candidate in open category and Rs 25,000 per candidate in SC and ST

More than 1,000 applications received by Congress party for the upcoming Telangana polls

Hyderabad: More than 1000 applications have been received by the Congress party for the upcoming Telangana elections 2023. There has been a beeline of aspirants as they came with their supporters to Gandhi Bhawan at Nampally.

August 25 was the last day of filing the applications, and apart from senior leaders, social workers, entrepreneurs, community association leaders, and a large number of young people have applied from the constituencies.

Telangana has 119 assembly constituencies, and the applications received by Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee indicate that there are at least 5 to 6 aspirants for each seat.

Gandhi Bhawan has walk-ins

The applications were received by the Congress party from August 18 to August 25, and during that time, there has been tremendous activity noted. According to the rules of TPCC there is a deposit of Rs 50,000 per candidate in open category and for scheduled caste and scheduled tribes, it is Rs 25,000 per candidate. So far, 1000 plus candidates have applied.

Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy says, "We will be able to give the exact details of aspirants per seat, women representation and details of their profession after the Chevella meeting of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge."

Selection committee to scrutinize

The selection committee, which is going to scrutinize the applications, are going to have a tough task ahead. The members are a senior Congress leader from Maharashtra Baba Siddique, Congress MLA from Gujarat Jignesh Mewani and senior members of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee.

The committee is to scrutinize the leaders based on their association with the party, their ground work, and ground reports in terms of their ability to take on the Bharat Rashtra Samithi candidates and the acceptability of the people. "It is going to be a Herculean task as there are also strong heavyweights who have held fort at Gandhi Bhawan for long. At the same time, there are ground workers who were mobilized after the Bharat Jodo Yatra. All these aspects will be kept in mind, apart from the tough fight that will ensue with BRS," explained a source.

Top leaders who have applied

Kamareddy, from where chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao is to contest, also has applications from more than one aspirant. Senior leader Shabbir Ali is also trying for the seat from Kamareddy. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Revanth Reddy from Kondagal, Jeevan Reddy from Jagityal, Ponnala Lakshmaiah from Janagama and many others.



Uttam Kumar Reddy has applied from Huzurnagar, and his wife N Padamavathi Reddy, from Kodad has applied. Bhuvanagiri MP Komat Reddy Venkat Reddy has also applied.

Women aspirants

There are women aspirants from different walks who have applied for the Assembly elections. CM KCR's brother's daughter, Regulapati Ramya Rao, came on Thursday to apply from Karimnagar. She flashed her application at Gandhi Bhawan.

After the Chevella meeting of Mr Kharge, all eyes will be set on the selection of the 119 candidates of the Congress party for the upcoming elections.
