Nagarjuna Sagar by-poll: TRS candidate walks Cheetah, video goes viral

Hyderabad: Days ahead of the Nagarjuna Sagar by-polls, a video of TRS candidate Nomula Bhagat Kumar taking a Cheetah for a walk has gone viral

In a short clip, Bhagat is seeing holding a belt while the Cheetah walked along. His cousin confirmed to NewsMeter that the man in the video was Bhagat. He however said it was an old video shot five years ago.

"Bhagat, on a personal trip visited a zoo in Africa 5 years ago, where he walked along with a cheetah under the observation of the Zoo authorities. The zoo provides an opportunity for visitors to tour with animals of their choice. I don't know how and why this video was leaked," Bhagat's cousin said.

The video however became a talking point in the media. Director Ram Gopal Verma's tweet further amplified it.

The 36-year-old is the son of former MLC Nomula Narsimhaiah. He is an agriculturalist and advocate by profession. The young man is facing senior Congress leader K Jana Reddy in the election battle. The BJP has fielded Panugothu Ravi Kumar.

Nagarjuna Sagar by-poll was necessitated after the sitting TRS MLA Nomula Narsimhaiah passed away at a private hospital in Hyderabad on December 1.

The 64-year-old leader joined the TRS around 2014 when the agitation for a separate Telangana was at its peak. He lost the election from the Nagarjuna Sagar constituency. But in 2018, he trumped the sitting Congress stalwart K. Jana Reddy by over 7,000 votes.

The by-election is scheduled to be held on April 17.
