Hyderabad: In a major push to ease passport appointment delays in Telangana, the Regional Passport Office (RPO) Hyderabad has announced a special Passport Mela on May 9, offering 4,000 additional normal appointment slots across all Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) under its jurisdiction.

The move aims to meet rising demand and shorten waiting times for applicants.

Special drive to cut waiting time

The one-day Passport Mela, being conducted under the guidance of the Ministry of External Affairs, is expected to significantly reduce the current waiting period for normal appointments, which stands at around 8–10 working days.

Officials said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve access to passport services and manage increasing application volumes.

Karimnagar PSK capacity set to double

In a parallel step to boost long-term service capacity, the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) Karimnagar will nearly double its daily appointment intake from 220 to 400 starting May 4.

The expanded capacity will cover all service categories, including normal, Tatkaal and Police Clearance Certificates (PCC).

The Karimnagar PSK, which was relocated and inaugurated in September 2025, has been upgraded to handle higher demand from the region.

Strong demand across Telangana

RPO Hyderabad currently operates 5 PSKs and 14 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) across the state. Together, they process an average of 4,500 passport applications daily, reflecting sustained public demand and the office’s expanding operational capacity.

Regional Passport Officer J Snehaja said the initiatives are part of sustained efforts to enhance efficiency, improve service delivery and reduce waiting periods for passport applicants across Telangana.

How to apply

Applicants are advised to book appointments online through the official portal and take advantage of the additional slots released during the Passport Mela.
