Nellore court theft: 2 men arrested, missing papers in Kakani forgery case found

Nellore: A few days after the mysterious theft at the 4th Additional Judicial Magistrate Court here, the district police have arrested two persons, both habitual offenders.

The two have been identified as Sayad Haayath and Kaja Rasool, both residents of Nellore Town. Haayath has 14 police cases against him.

Last Wednesday, unknown people broke into the court complex and stole documents relating to a forgery case filed against agriculture minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy by former minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy.

According to the Nellore district superintendent of police, Vijaya Rao, on 14 April, the two broke into the court complex and stole stamps, documents, and electronic items. Based on footage from 12,000 CCTV cameras in the city, the police tracked down the two accused. "The two were found near the Atmakur bus stand flyover in an intoxicated condition. We recovered a Samsung tab, Lenovo laptop, four cell phones, and seven SIM cards from them," said the SP.

According to the SP, the two men planned to steal iron scrap near the court. When they found dogs on the premises, they entered the first floor of the court complex and tried to find valuables they could steal. They found a bag with some electronic items. They stole the electronics and dumped the bag in the culvert.

Missing documents found

After documents relating to the case against minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy went missing, there were rumours that the minister was behind the incident.

In December 2017, Sarvepally MLA and minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy alleged that former minister Somireddy had properties worth thousands of crores of rupees in foreign countries. He released a few documents to the media, stating they were property documents.

Mr. Somireddy filed a complaint at the Nellore rural police station alleging that Mr. Kakani had forged the documents and demanded action against the minister. He even filed a defamation case against the minister in court. Later, it was proved that the documents provided by the minister were fake and a charge sheet was filed against him.

While the case is pending in court, the documents related to the case were stolen. However, the police found the documents that had been dumped in a culvert.
