Nellore: Two held for attempting to molest 25YO Lithuanian national
After the woman screamed for help, the duo fled from the spot
By Newsmeter Network Published on 9 March 2022 6:52 AM GMTNellore: Police have arrested two youth who tried to sexually assault a 25-year-old Lithuanian national in the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. The incident happened on International Women's Day.
The two accused have been identified as 28-year-old Ingilala Sai Kumar, a native of Venkannapalam village Manubolu zone, and 26-year-old Syed Abid, a resident of Gudur Mandal.
Superintendent of Police, Nellore, Ch Vijaya Rao said the woman visited India as a tourist. "On March 7, she went to Sri Lanka and came to Chennai. She boarded a bus from Chennai to Bengaluru for an onward journey to Goa. When authorities refused to accept dollars for a ticket, she alighted from the bus. It is when she met Ingilala Sai Kumar of Venkannapalem village, who offered Indian currency to buy a ticket," he said.
Once they reached Nellore, the woman withdrew cash and returned the money to Sai Kumar. "He took her to his house in Venkannapalem. The accused called his friend Syed Abid. They took her to an isolated place in Raipur forest area of Sydapuram and tried to sexually assault her. After the woman screamed for help, the duo fled from the spot," he said.
On receiving information, the Saydapuram police rushed to the spot and rescued the woman. Police arrested the accused within hours. According to the police, the Aadhar card taken by the woman before giving him money helped to nab the duo.
Police have registered a case under section 354-A, 323 IPC.
