New Year vigilance: Curb drug sales, no parties without govt’s permission, CM Revanth Reddy tells cops

Hyderabad: “I have observed that there are tickets sold for the Sunburn party to be held on December 31 on online platforms like BookMyShow. How can they conduct such events without permission from the government? Such events should not allow persons under the age of 18 years and cannot be held without permission from the government,” said chief minister A Revanth Reddy.

On Sunday, he held a meeting with the district collectors and SPs on maintaining law and order and events being organised for New Year’s celebrations.

He asked the police to check how BookMyShow was allowed to sell tickets for the Sunburn festival without permission.

The Cyberabad commissioner has been asked to make all efforts to curb the pedalling of drugs in the state. The CM asked the police to increase their numbers and patrolling and pay attention to year-end events happening on December 31.

“Such events in Hyderabad divert the youth to the wrong side. States such as Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra have banned activities like hookah centres, pubs and Sunburn parties. For now, be very strict. Don’t ignore anyone no matter how old they are or what their background is. I am giving all powers to the police to take strict action,” said CM Revanth Reddy.

The CM asked the police officials to find out Ganja supply points in the city. “Know the ganja supply routes and points in each district and appoint special officers to curb ganja sales,” he added.

Appoint agents to avoid sale of fake seeds

He asked officials to appoint agents for the sale of genuine seeds for the farmers. “Fake and poor quality seeds are the reason why farmer suicides are happening. Corporate companies are behind the procurement of fake seeds. Counterfeit seeds can only be controlled when company owners are held accountable,” said Revanth Reddy.

Implementation of six guarantees

As promised by Congress to implement six guarantees in Telangana once coming to power, the CM said the government is focusing on identifying the beneficiaries.

The Revenue Department will be conducting village meetings from December 28 to January 6 from 9 am to 5 pm for beneficiaries to submit applications for the benefits. Two meetings will be held in two villages every day. A special officer will be deputed to each Legislative Assembly Constituency for public governance. A total of 119 special officers will be appointed for 119 constituencies.

Each officer is directed to visit two villages: one village from 8 am to 12 am and another from 2 am to 6 am. Teams, consisting of Anganwadi and Asha workers should help the public in filling the forms and filing them.

“Our government aims to scrutinise the applications and implement welfare schemes for all those who are eligible. The district collectors should explain the six guarantees to the people,” said Revanth Reddy.

“If the officers feel any difficulty in the process of implementation, inform the chief secretary of the Government or the DGP,” the CM said.

Addressing the officials, Revanth Reddy asked collectors and SPs to feel free to inform him if anyone does not want to work extra hours. “We will transfer any officials who cannot work or feel stressed working for 18 hours. The officer concerned will be transferred to a non-working area,” the CM said.

“You have come from everywhere to serve in Telangana and there’ll be no discrimination. Unlike political representatives who get a 5-year tenure, you get 35 years of tenure. Live up to the trust and confidence of the public,” said Revanth Reddy to the collectors and SPs.
