Interview: No Congress hawa in Telangana; BRS will score hattrick with more than 80 seats: MLC Kavitha

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha is confident of the KCR government scoring a hattrick in the ensuing assembly elections.

She also asserted that she would contest the Lok Sabha elections and win hands down this time.

She represented Nizamabad Lok Sabha Constituency from 2014 to 2019.

BRS Hawa, not Congress Hawa

Dismissing the notion that there is Congress “hawa” (wave) sweeping Telangana, she asserted: “It’s only a hawa talk and people will repose confidence in Chief Minister and BRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao and ensure a big win for BRS. It’s BRS hawa again.”

Hattrick again

“We will score a hattrick. There is no doubt about it. We will win over 80 seats. Congress had claimed a big win in the last elections too, but you have seen the reality. They will not win and people should not vote for Congress. Telangana State will be ruined if Congress is voted to power. BRS has shown results in all spheres in the State since 2014 and we expect people to reciprocate the gesture for the third time to KCR Garu,” she told Newsmeter in an exclusive interview.

“We have one leader in KCR Garu and he will be CM again. What about Congress? Can they name who will be CM? They can’t since there are many claimants…Revanth Reddy, Bhatti Vikramarka, Jana Reddy etc. etc.”

Telangana sentiment

Asked if BRS continues to bank on Telangana sentiment, she replied positively. “Telangana sentiment continues to prevail in Telangana. We achieved Telangana and we will showcase it.”

Stating that Telangana is galloping on all fronts and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has provided a strong, stable, and development-oriented government for two terms and if elected again, he would ensure rapid development on all fronts.

More 2-bedroom houses in the next term

Asked if there was any grey area that she felt they could have addressed, she said the government could have provided more 2-bedroom houses for the poor.

“We will focus on this issue besides youth jobs. Contrary to the allegations by the Opposition, the government was able to generate jobs in various sectors especially IT and other industries. Telangana is attracting major companies. Government jobs are limited and we tried our best to provide it,” she explained.

No issue on power front

On the power front, she asserted the government was providing sufficient power to domestic, farm, and industrial sectors. “There is no issue on power front,” she added.

Nothing to do with liquor scam

Dismissing the talk of a secret deal with the BJP, she said she was targeted by the BJP-led NDA government in the liquor scam to demoralize the BRS government.

“I have said it and say it again. I am in no way connected to the liquor scam and I am not involved in it in any manner. It’s politically motivated,” she asserted.

Soft target

She added, “The issue did cause a lot of pain and anguish in my parents’ family and in-laws’ family. My mother-in-law wept. The family is disturbed by the reports on the issue. I am ready to face any probe and I will come out clean. I have become a soft target for many.”

Defends KCR's decision to contest from two constituencies

Kavitha, who is camping in Nizamabad to oversee the polls in the combined Nizamabad district, defended Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s decision to contest from the Gajwel and Kamareddy constituencies.

Denying rumors spread by opponents that KCR's decision to contest from two assembly constituencies was due to a lack of confidence in winning in Gajwel, she retorted, “Why don’t you think it’s a strategic move? KCR decisions sometimes are out of the box. And there should be a reason behind it.”

Asked whether it was to help her since the Kamareddy assembly constituency forms the party of Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency, she laughs, adding “No... no... nothing like that.”

Prefers Third Front to NDA, INDIA

To another question, she prefers a Third Front forming a government at the Centre instead of BJP-led NDA or Congress-led INDIA at the Centre in the next elections.

“I don’t want both of them. Prefer a third alternative,” she chuckles.

Defends Karnataka farmers' protests in Hyderabad

Kavitha defended her party supporting Karnataka farmers' protests in Hyderabad against Siddharamaiah-led Congress government failures in Karnataka.

“It's politics. What’s wrong with exposing the Congress failures in neighboring Karnataka when they are trying to provide a rosy picture of their rule and promising heaven here? They have miserably failed to implement their promises yet make similar promises in Telangana and fool people.”

Too young to think about becoming CM

Asked if she too has a desire to become the Chief Minister of Telangana State since there is a talk that Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao is in the line, she laughs saying,” No. No.. No.. I still have a long way to go. I am too young. KCR Garu will be CM if elected for the third time in a row.”
