Hyderabad: Telangana High Court has restrained the state government from evicting landowners, affected by the proposed Greenfield Radial Road project, till compensation is paid.

Interim relief for affected farmers

Hearing a petition filed by 98-year-old Sripati Ahalya Devi and 29 others, Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar issued interim orders restraining authorities from taking possession of 61 acres belonging to the petitioners.

The court made it clear that eviction cannot take place until due compensation is disbursed.

Challenge to land acquisition notifications

The petitioners approached the High Court contesting land acquisition notifications issued for 554.34 acres across Kurmidda (Yacharam mandal), Mudwin (Kadtal mandal), and Amanagallu and Akuthotapalli villages (Amanagallu mandal) in Ranga Reddy district.

They alleged that the authorities initiated the acquisition process without properly considering objections or allowing them to be heard, and sought cancellation of notifications related to their 61.24 acres.

Government’s stand

Advocate General A. Sudarshan Reddy, representing the state, informed the court that disputes exist only over about 200 acres out of the total 554.34 acres.

He added that compensation has already been sanctioned for 26 acres and assured that land would be taken over only after compensation is paid.

The state also argued that a stay on the entire acquisition process at this stage would not be appropriate.

Court seeks detailed response

After hearing both sides, the court directed the government to file detailed counters explaining the land acquisition process. The matter has been adjourned to June 8 for further hearing.

Project background

The Greenfield Radial Road project is planned to connect the Outer Ring Road near Meerkhanpet to the proposed Regional Ring Road, aiming to improve connectivity in the Ranga Reddy district region.
