NTR dist: Ahead of polls, police seize Rs 9 Cr cash from lorry, TDP leaders home

NTR: Less than a week before elections, police seized Rs 9 crore cash in two different operations in the NTR district.

Ahead of the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls, police have set up check posts to check vehicles and prevent cash and liquor flow.

On Thursday, police intercepted a lorry and during checking, they discovered pipes in a separate cabin. During close checking, they found Rs 8.36 crore cash that was being transported from Hyderabad to Guntur.



"We will hand over this amount to the district scrutiny teams, and further action will be taken by the EC officials and flying squad team", said Chandra Shekhar, Jaggaiahpet Circle Inspector.

According to police, the truck belonging to Chittoor district is registered under the name of one Shaik Aziz. Meanwhile, police are questioning the truck driver, Ch Shanmugan (40), and cleaner, P Sekhar Reddy (24), for further information.

After submitting the cash to the treasury department, police have registered a case under CrPC Sections 41 and 102, the police official added.

In another incident, around Rs 1 Crore cash was seized from the TDP leader's residence in the Mylavaram constituency. Sources said the flying squad seized money from Mylavaram TDP leader Aluri Suresh's house in Gollapudi.

According to AP chief electoral officer (CEO) Mukesh Kumar Meena, the police and other enforcement departments had started the seizures on January 1 after the Election Commission of India (ECI) visited the state. Total seizures amounting to Rs 179 crore have been seized till March 16.

Of the total, Rs 47 crore is in cash, Rs 28 crore worth liquor, Rs 3.6 crore worth drugs, Rs 105 crore worth of precious metals, and Rs 14 crore worth of other items, he said. In all, the total seizures in the state stood at Rs 382 crore, he said.
