Hyderabad: A man who had raped a three-year-old girl in Jawahar Nagar a few days ago was arrested on Saturday after he was accused of sexually assaulting another minor. The mother of the second girl had raised an alarm prompting the police to check CCTV footage and identify the accused. During interrogation, he confessed to raping the minor.
On 4 July, the Jawahar Nagar police received a complaint from a resident of Dammaiguda under Keesara mandal in Medchal district who said that his three-and-a-half-year-old daughter was kidnapped while she was on her way to a shop. A case was registered by the station house officer of Jawahar Nagar station and an investigation was launched.
The next day the police found the minor girl unconscious at Venkateshwara Colony in Dammaiguda. The girl was taken to the community health centre in Malkajgiri for treatment where the medical officer who examined her said she had been sexually assaulted. The case was modified and various sections of the IPC and POCSO Act 2012 were added.
Four days later, on 9 July, the police received another complaint from a woman from Pragathi Nagar, Dammaiguda, stating that a man had misbehaved with her nine-year-old daughter. She raised an alarm but the man ran away towards the forest. Based on her complaint, a case was registered under various sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act.
During the investigation, the special teams examined CCTV footage from the area and identified the accused. Based on the clues, they apprehended Abhiram Dass (40) years from Odisha. During interrogation, he revealed that he had come to Hyderabad 12 years ago to make a living. His wife had left him eight years ago and since then he was staying alone at Bandlaguda. On 4 July he went to Venkateshwara Colony in Dammaiguda and kidnapped the minor girl and took her into the forest. He raped her during the night and abandoned her the next day. On 9 July, he had tried to kidnap another girl but fled when her mother raised an alarm
