`Operation Parivartan: Andhra to destroy 2L kilos cannabis worth Rs 500 Cr

Andhra Pradesh: Andhra Pradesh police are all set to destroy two lakh kilograms of cannabis worth Rs. 500 crore on Saturday. This operation will be jointly conducted by the Andhra Pradesh Police and Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) in Visakhapatnam.

The cannabis will be set ablaze on the outskirts of Anakapalli in Visakhapatnam on February 12.

Under `Operation Parivartan', around 2 lakh kilograms of processed cannabis was seized when it was being shipped out and post-harvest. Such seizure was unheard of in the country.

From November 2021 to February 2022, the Andhra Pradesh Police have destroyed cannabis crop spread over 8,500 acres of land.

AP police had devised the operation with a two-pronged strategy. While the primary goal was to find and destroy Cannabis crops, the operation also aimed to educate indigenous communities participating in the production.

The operation, which included revenue, tribal welfare, agricultural, and ITDA personnel, is aimed to rehabilitate persons involved in the cannabis trade by giving alternative livelihood opportunities.
