Pahalgam terror attack: India suspends exchange of all inbound mails, parcels from Pakistan

New Delhi: In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 that claimed the lives of 26 tourists, the central government has announced a major decision to suspend the exchange of all categories of inbound mail and parcels from Pakistan via both air and surface routes.

The Ministry of Communications issued a public notice on Saturday stating: ā€œThe Government of India has decided to suspend exchange of all categories of inbound mail and parcels from Pakistan through air and surface routes.ā€

This move follows a series of stringent measures taken by the government in response to the attack. These include suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, revoking special visas issued to Pakistani nationals, closing Indian airspace to Pakistani airlines, and sealing the Attari-Wagah border in Amritsar.

Additionally, India has imposed an immediate ban on the direct and indirect import of all goods from Pakistan, citing national security and public policy concerns. Reports indicate that between April and January of the 2024–25 fiscal year, India's exports to Pakistan were valued at $447.65 million, while imports stood at a mere $0.42 million.
