Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao inaugurated the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation scheme in Mahabubnagar on Saturday.

The project is set to irrigate 12.30 lakh acres of land and provide drinking water to 1,226 villages. As per the project objectives, Krishna water will now irrigate the fields in the upland regions of Mahabubnagar, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Nagarkurnool, Narayanpet, and Nalgonda districts.

With five lifts, six reservoirs, and 145 MW pumps, water will be lifted to a maximum height of 672 metres. It is important to note that this area is largely a drought-stricken land.

While addressing the public, he made it clear that the Mahabubnagar and Rangareddy districts should be written in golden letters in the history of Telangana.

“Once people from Palamuru had to work as labourers in Hyderabad. But today, people are coming to work at Palamuru from neighbouring states. The locals here are working in their fields too,” he said. KCR said that this has also changed the future of the children of Palamuru.

Fulfilling the long-cherished dream of people of the water-starved region, he switched on one of the high-powered 145-MW pumping systems, the first of its kind ever used in the world, commencing its crucial wet run.

Over 3,200 cusecs of water drawn from the offshore point of the Srisailam project and channelled through the mammoth tunnel system and surge pool, was pumped into the Anjanagiri reservoir built as part of the Stage-1 of the Rs 35,000 crore project.

The chief minister addressed a massive rally on the occasion celebrating the success of the project with sarpanches and elected representatives from the region along with the general public. “How many medical colleges did anyone have under Congress? None. Now there is a medical college in every district,” he said.
