Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the setting up of the National Turmeric Board for the benefit of turmeric farmers in Telangana. This was one of the election promise made by BJP in 2019 and it stands fulfilled now.

The promise of Turmeric Board led to defeat of BRS MLC K Kavitha in 2019.

On Sunday, he laid the foundation stone for several developmental projects and inaugurated other finished structures, in total worth more than Rs 13,500 crore via videoconferencing in Mahabubnagar district.

Turmeric is cultivated on a large scale in Nizamabad, Jagtial and Nirmal regions of the state. Besides the local distribution, the regions also export the bulb and finger variants of turmeric to other countries.

Addressing the public, PM Modi said, “For the production and export of turmeric, there is a need for a board to be established. The National Turmeric Board will benefit all turmeric farmers in the country.” He underlined that the National Turmeric Board will focus on value addition to the supply chain and help in infrastructure improvement for the farmers. Prime Minister Modi congratulated all the turmeric-growing farmers from Telangana and the entire nation on the formation of the National Turmeric Board.

In addition, the Indian government is establishing a Central Tribal University in the Mulugu district of Telangana at a cost of Rs 900 crore, and this university will be named Samakka Sarakka Central Tribal University, the prime minister said, after launching the projects.

The prime minister laid the foundation stone for key road projects that are part of the Nagpur-Vijayawada Economic Corridor, including the 108 km long four-lane access-controlled greenfield highway from Warangal to Khammam section of NH-163G and the 90 km-long four-lane access-controlled greenfield highway from Khammam to Vijayawada section of NH-163G. These roads will be built at a total cost of about Rs 6,400 crore.

The Prime Minister highlighted the need for rail and road connectivity for a land-locked state like Telangana for taking the goods manufactured here to the ports. He said many key economic corridors of the country are passing through Telangana. All these will become a medium to connect the state with the East and West Coast. The Suryapet-Khammam section of the Hyderabad Visakhapatnam corridor will also help in this. It will help in reaching the East Coast. Besides, logistics costs of industries and businesses will also be reduced. The railway line being built between Jaklair and Krishna section will also be very important for the people here, he said.

He also inaugurated the 37 km section of the Jaklair Krishna New Railway Line. Built at a cost of more than Rs 500 crore, the new rail line section brings areas of the backward district of Narayanpet for the first time onto the railway map.

The Hassan-Cherlapalli LPG Pipeline Project which is built at a cost of about Rs 2,170 crore was also inaugurated on Sunday. The LPG pipeline, from Hassan in Karnataka to Cherlapalli (a suburb of Hyderabad), provides a safe, cost-efficient, and eco-friendly mode of LPG transportation and distribution in the region.
