Video: Portion of under-construction flyover collapses in Vizag killing two
The accident led to traffic jams on the route that sees heavy vehicular movement. The incident has triggered panic among the motorists.
By Newsmeter Network Published on 6 July 2021 2:30 PM GMTVisakhapatnam: Two pilgrims were killed and three others suffered minor injuries when two concrete beams of an under-construction flyover collapsed on a car and a tanker near Puppala Junction in Anakapalle Town of Vizag district on Tuesday evening.
The flyover is being constructed as a part of the six-lane project by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) under Bharatmala Pariyojana Scheme. The work has been outsourced to a private construction firm.
DSP of Anakapalle K Sravani said that the concrete structures of the flyover collapsed on a car and tanker. Two people, who were in the front seat were killed in the incident. Two women in the back seat sustained minor injuries. Similarly, one person found injured in the tanker was rescued by the police, she added.
The deceased were identified as Ch Satish Kumar (35) of Sriharipuram and Sushanth Mohanty (38) of Arilova in Vizag city. Kumar's wife Sunita, who was pregnant, and Mohanty's wife Lakshmi were rescued.
Police shifted the injured to the nearby hospital where their condition is said to be stable.
Police said that Kumar and Mohanty along with their wives came to Anakapalle Town for darshan of local deity Noolamma. The incident took place when they were returning home.
The accident led to severe traffic jams on the route. Panic gripped the motorists after the incident.
Police suspect a technical fault might have led to the collapse of the structure. Police said that they are investigating the case from all angles. Police said a thorough investigation will be conducted to find out the causes of the accident.

Alleging poor quality construction material was used, CPM demanded a detailed investigation into the fly-over accident case. CPM Vizag city secretary Dr. B Ganga Rao demanded that the government should provide ex-gratia of Rs one crore to the family members of the deceased and free medical treatment to the injured.
