Hyderabad: For those of you travelling in Air India flight AI839 from Delhi to Hyderabad, do not be surprised if you find a box on your neighbouring seat. It is not an ordinary box but one that would influence the future of Indian politics in the next five years.
At around 11:45 pm on 12 July, Mr. Ballot Box, the ballot box which is going to be used in the 16th Presidential Elections, will arrive at the Hyderabad International Airport. The ballot box which is going to be used in 16th Presidential elections on 18 July will be transported in an Air India passenger flight, AI839 from Delhi to Hyderabad with a distinct ticket and seat allotted for "Mr Ballot Box."
The Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar along with Election Commissioner Anup Chandra dispatched the ballot boxes to all the 29 state capitals on Tuesday.
"A contingent team from the office of Chief Election Officer, Telangana is travelling with Mr. Ballot box to Hyderabad from New Delhi, scheduled to arrive late night on Tuesday," said Mr. Vikas Raj, Chief Electoral Officer, Telangana.
However, it is not sure why the Election Commission of India assumed the ballot box to be of a particular gender, instead of keeping it gender-neutral.
The presidential election 2022 is scheduled to be held on 18 July. Both the candidates are on the election fray. On Tuesday, the BJP candidate Draupadi Murmu met Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy and former CM Chandrababu Naidu seeking their support. YSRCP and TDP have decided to support the BJP candidate Murmu while TRS has announced its support to opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha. On 2 July, Sinha visited Telangana to meet KCR and seek TRS party's support.
