Hyderabad: On the eve of the 75th Independence Day, the President of India announced the medals for police officers for their remarkable service. Telangana's additional DGP and Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat received the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service 2022.

Besides Mr. Bhagwat, the superintendent of police, Intelligence cell, Hyderabad, Devendar Singh, also received the medal from the state. Mr. Bhagwat said he was delighted to receive the award. "I am happy that the government, especially the Telangana government, has recognised our efforts in both law enforcement and in delivering various services to people like the ones that we carried out during the Covid-19 period," he said.

Interestingly, this is his third Presidential medal. "In 2004, I received the President's Police Medal for Gallantry; in 2011, the President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service; and now, in 2022, the Presidential Police Medal for Distinguished Service," he said. Thanking his superior officers and colleagues, he said, "My sincere gratitude to all those superiors who believed in me and my colleagues who always encouraged me for service-oriented delivery."

Twelve police officers from Telangana were also awarded the President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service. No police officer from the state has been awarded the gallantry award this year.

Across the country and across organisations, 347 police officers have been awarded Police Medal for Gallantry, 87 have been awarded the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service, and 648 have been awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
