Ambatpally: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi visited the Medigadda (Lakshmi) barrage and inspected the piers that partly sunk in. The barrage is a part of the Kaleshwaram project.

Rahul Gandhi who is currently campaigning in Telangana flew in a chopper to the barrage at Ambatpally village in Jayashankar Bhupalpally.

Local MPTCs, ZPTCs from Ampatpally village along with the Congress workers sat on a dharna demanding the police to allow them to visit Medigada barrage.

"Cracks have developed in multiple pillars because of shoddy construction with reports indicating that the pillars are sinking. KCR and his family are using the Kaleshwaram Project as their personal ATM to plunder the people of Telangana," said Rahul Gandhi on X posting a picture of his visit. However the BRS came down heavily on Rahul Gandhi as the cracks he mentioned in his post are wide gaps or expansion gaps, especially made to help prevent the cracking.

Announcing about Rs 4,000 monthly stipend for women of Telangana, Rahul Gandhi said his partyā€™s government will ensure to refund every penny to the people that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao stole from them. Addressing ā€˜Mahilla Sadassuā€™, a gathering of women, Rahul Gandhi said he wanted to personally visit the place which is at the heart of KCR and his familyā€™s corruption.

Endorsing ā€˜BRS ATMā€™, a name given to the Kaleshwaram project by the Congress workers to highlight the embezzlement of Rs one lakh crore allegedly by the KCR family, Rahul Gandhi said this should be specifically named as the ā€œKCR ATMā€ and ā€œKCR Family ATMā€.

Referring to the loss of Rs one lakh crores in the project, he said, every family of Telangana state will now need to repay Rs 31,500 every year till 2040, to keep this ā€œATMā€ of the KCR family running.

At the same time, he assured the people of Telangana that the Congress party would retrieve and transfer every penny that KCR stole from them into their bank accounts.

Announcing a special monthly stipend of Rs 4,000 for Telangana women, Rahul Gandhi said, that since they are the backbone of the state and take care of the future, they will be directly getting Rs 2,500 every month in their accounts.

Besides, he added, they will get the gas cylinder refill for Rs 500 in Telangana. Plus, the women will be entitled to free bus travel across the state. He said women can save about Rs 1,000 every month on their bus travel. This means he pointed out, they will make a monthly earning of Rs 4,000 once the Congress government is formed in the state.

Earlier on Wednesday, villagers were alerted of another barrage leak at Annaram Saraswati Barrage in Mahadevpur mandal of Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. It was reported that the water leakage was noticed at gate number 28 and 38.

This is the second leakage reported in the Kaleshwaram project. On October 21, pillar number 15 to 20 of the Medigadda (Lakshmi Barrage) barrage sunk in. The National Dam Safety Authority constituted a six-member committee to inspect the water leakage and the investigation is on.
