Hyderabad: The Ministry of Railways said that it will fully fund the 33-kilometre railway line from Ghatkesar to Yadadri. As per government estimates, the project expenditure was said to be around Rs 412 crore. The Centre has agreed to release Rs 100 for the current financial year.

The official announcement was made by minister of state for Railways and Food Processing Industries, Ravneet Singh, in correspondence with Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy.

In a letter to the MP, the MoS mentioned that the issue was earlier raised by Kiran Kumar in the Lok Sabha on April 3 during the Zero Hour, regarding the release of Rs 412 crore for a railway line from Ghatkesar to Yadagirigutta.

The project cost escalated after delay

The MoS said that the railway line, measuring 33 km, was sanctioned in 2016 on a cost-sharing basis under MMTS Phase-II. However, the project was delayed.

ā€œThe project could not be taken up due to non-deposit of the State Government’s share of funds. However, the project is now taken up by the Ministry of Railway on complete Railway funding,ā€ the letter said.

According to a Times of India report from last year, after receiving no response from the State regarding its share, the Centre decided to fund the project independently at the cost of Rs 650 crore and complete it within two years. The State government was supposed to bear two-thirds of the expenditure, amounting to Rs 290 crore, the report said.

Land acquisition in progress

The MoS also said that, for the financial year 2025-26, Rs 100 crores have been allocated for the project. In the letter, he also mentioned that the release of funds is subject to the demand from the executing agency and that the land acquisition is in process.

The letter was tweeted by Kiran Kumar from his X account, where he thanked Ravneet Singh, on behalf of the Bhongir people, for fully funding the project.
