Ramp connecting under-construction flyover on LB Nagar collapses; 8 injured

Hyderabad: Seven migrant workers and a site engineer were injured when a part of a ramp connecting an under-construction flyover on Sagar Road collapsed.

The area falls under L B Nagar.

The ramp, which connects Chandrayanagutta to LB Nagar flyover was being constructed as part of the city's Strategic Road Development Program (SRDP). The construction work is being carried out by BSCPL company.

What happened

Workers were in the process of laying the slab when the structure collapsed.

Among the seven injured people, three are from Bihar. They have been identified as Jitendar Kumar (26), Hareram (22), and Vicky Kumar (23). Three injured workers from Uttar Pradesh. They have been identified as Rohit Kumar (25), Puneeth Kumar (25), and Shankar Lal (25). Seven injured have been identified as Ravi Kumar (26).

Furthermore, one of the injured individuals is a site engineer. He has been identified as Gopalakrishna from Visakhapatnam. As per the police report, two of the workers are currently in critical condition, while another worker sustained a fracture in the leg.

Construction progress

Twelve slabs have been successfully laid. Work had just commenced on the ramp connecting the flyover to Chintalkunta. The collapsed slab, measuring approximately 10 meters in length, fell from a height of around 15 feet.

Authorities' Response

LB Nagar MLA D Sudheer Reddy visited the site to assess the situation. He instructed officials to ensure the injured workers receive the best possible medical treatment. Additionally, LB Nagar police have said a case will be registered against the contractor involved.

Minister KT Rama Rao visited injured workers

Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister, K. T Rama Rao paid a visit to KIMS Hospital today to meet and inquire about the well-being of those injured in a recent flyover accident. The minister expressed concern, assured government support, and promised necessary arrangements for treatment and speedy recovery.

IT Minister said, “A comprehensive inquiry, will be conducted by a three-member internal enquiry committee headed by an engineer in chief of GHMC and by JNTU University, to ascertain the actual cause of the mishap. If any evidence of negligence on the part of the working agency emerges, strict action would be taken.”
