Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has granted status quo in a batch of writ petitions challenging GO 84 dated March 4, about the Outdoor Advertisement Policy – CURE 2026. The case was heard by Justice NV Shravan Kumar.
Who are the petitioners?
One of the key petitions (WP No. 8350 of 2026) has been filed by the Telangana Outdoor Media Owners Association (TOMO), represented by its Secretary, Konkala Ramesh, along with other petitioners, questioning the legality and implementation of the said Government Order and policy.
After hearing the submissions, the court observed that the issue has wider public importance and requires detailed examination. The court directed the respondents to file their counters and ordered that: “Meanwhile, the status quo existing as on today shall be maintained insofar as the petitioners are concerned.”
In March, the TOMO organised an ‘Assembly March’ to the Telangana State Legislative Assembly, voicing serious opposition to the government’s newly announced policy on outdoor advertising.
What is the case about?
The petitioners have raised multiple concerns regarding GO 84 and the Outdoor Advertisement Policy – CURE 2026, including the lack of proper consideration of stakeholders’ representations and failure to provide an opportunity for hearing, despite earlier directions of the court.
Welcoming the interim relief, the Telangana Outdoor Media Owners Association stated that the order provides immediate protection to stakeholders and acknowledges the broader public and industry implications of the issue.
The association emphasised that the outdoor advertising sector in Telangana is a long-standing industry of over six decades, generating significant direct and indirect employment.
The Association expressed confidence that the matter will now be adjudicated after a fair hearing of all stakeholders and reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing appropriate legal remedies to safeguard the interests of lawful hoarding advertisement operators in accordance with the law.
