Report Card: MPs Nama, Arvind and Uttam top Lok Sabha attendance; Asad asks max questions

Report card of political leaders from BRS, Telangana BJP, Telangana Congress

Hyderabad: BRS parliamentarian Nama Nageshwara Rao, BJP MP from Nizamabad Arvind Dharmapuri, and Congress MLA-turned-MP Uttam Nalamada Reddy clocked the highest percentage of attendance in the Lok Sabha sessions, with the BRS MP logging 89% attendance and the other two MPs 88% each.

Meanwhile, first-time BRS MP Kavitha Malothu from Mahabubabad had the least attendance, 49%.

AIMIM MP from Hyderabad Asaduddin Owaisi is the most active parliamentarian, having asked 344 questions and participated in three Bills, the highest among all.

On the other hand, the least number of questions (6) were asked by BRS Nagarkurnool MP Ramulu Pothuganti. Number of starred, unstarred, and short-notice questions asked by a member in the House are included in the calculation.

It is pertinent to mention that the BJP Karimnagar MP and state president Bandi Sanjay who is spreading the party in Telangana clocked 73% attendance and asked 57 questions, while his counterpart, Congress TPCC president and Malkajgiri MP A. Revanth Reddy, marked 64% attendance and asked 181 questions.

This data is based on information from the websites of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, collated by PRS Legislative Researchā€”an independent non-profit organisation that keeps a track of Parliament functioning.

It independently records the attendance of parliamentarians, their participation in debates, Bills, and more. PRS Legislative analysed the attendance and Parliament participation of 17 MPs from Telangana.

How is the performance of an elected parliamentarian tracked?

Attendance: A member is considered as present if he/she signs the attendance register during the session. If a member was present on a particular day but did not sign the attendance register, he/she is considered as absent. PRS collates data based on the attendance marked.

Debates: Members participate in debates either directly by initiating a debate or by associating with other memberā€™s debate. All these instances have been considered as memberā€™s participation in debates. The data is based on Bulletin-I and proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Questions: The data is based on the Question List published by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Private Memberā€™s Bills (PMB): The number of PMBs introduced by a member in the House are included in the computation. The data is based on Bulletin-I of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
