Hyderabad: The landscape of Vikarabad is set to change with a tourism project of Rs 1,000 crores, which has been approved by the Telangana government.
According to sources, the Telangana government will provide land and administrative framework, while the private companies are to put in the capital and operational expertise.
The project will involve setting up a wellness centre and tourism resorts in Ananthagiri Hills.
This is a part of the Telangana Tourism Policy 2025-2030 and the project is going to be built on a public-private partnership model.
Developing Mini Ooty of Telangana
The project aims to leverage Vikarabad’s unique climate and the lush Ananthagiri forest—often called the ‘Mini Ooty’ of Telangana. The development is split into several high-impact zones:
1. Iconic Luxury Safari: A flagship resort is slated to be the project’s crown jewel. Classified as an ‘Iconic Project’ with an investment exceeding Rs 500 crore, it will focus on high-end wildlife experiences.
2. International Wellness Retreats: The government has successfully courted global brands along with local and Indian partners to develop a wellness centre.
3. Eco-Tourism and Adventure: Alongside private investments, a Rs 38.01 crore project under the central Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme is already underway to ensure that the infrastructure remains environmentally sustainable.
Investors to get financial incentives
The state’s strategy hinges on the PPP model, where the government identifies and leases prime land parcels—specifically near the Ananthagiri Hills.
By providing the land, the state has cleared the biggest hurdle for investors, categorising these ventures as ‘Mega’ and ‘Iconic’ projects to ensure they receive maximum fiscal incentives and expedited clearances.
Wedding Destination
The vision for Vikarabad extends beyond traditional hiking.
The region is being aggressively promoted as a premium wedding destination to rival the heritage sites of Rajasthan.
To support this influx of high-net-worth travellers and international visitors, the government is planning to deploy a specialised Tourist Police unit.
Why Vikarabad?
Vikarabad is the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s bastion and there is already a political buzz for this clearance. The plan and its infrastructure are already causing a lot of people to discuss the investments coming into the district.
