Revanth: Kharge to decide Lok Sabha candidates for Telangana; white paper on irrigation soon

Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) met on Tuesday and passed a resolution unanimously to hand over the decision to select candidates for the Lok Sabha elections to All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge, said chief minister A Revanth Reddy.

Disclosing the details before the media at Gandhi Bhavan here, Revanth Reddy said that the Congress party had asked the leaders to file applications to contest in the Lok Sabha elections till March 3. A special committee was appointed to scrutinise the applications, and ministers and in-charges were appointed to the 17 Parliamentary segments in Telangana, he said and added that the Congress will kick off its Lok Sabha campaign from Indravelli in Adilabad district on February 2.

Revanth accuses PM Modi of not keeping promises

Launching a scathing attack on prime minister Narendra Modi, Revanth Reddy said that the latter had utterly failed in implementing the promises made to the people.

“It is because of Modi that India stood top in farmers’ suicides. None of the promises given to the farmers were implemented during his tenure. Instead, the BJP has taken Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president K Chandrashekar Rao as an example and achieved the honour of purchasing MLAs and bringing down governments,” the TPCC president said.

Revanth Reddy also alleged that Modi had created debts to the tune of hundreds of lakhs of crore rupees and imposed a burden on the people. Even though a major violence erupted in Manipur, the PM did not even visit the place to meet the victims, he said.

Revanth accuses BRS of supporting BJP

“It is high time; India needs a leader like Rahul Gandhi to become the prime minister. If all the 17 Lok Sabha seats were given to the Congress and the party voted to power in the Centre, all promises honoured to Telangana will be implemented,” he said.

Taking a jibe at the BRS, the TPCC president said that BRS is lacking its existence in Telangana. “The BJP has become a threat to the country and the BRS also joined hands with the saffron party for their political benefits. Voting for BRS in the Lok Sabha elections will turn out to be a waste,” Revanth Reddy said. On the BRS approaching the court to prevent the swearing-in of MLCs under Governor Quota, Revanth Reddy alleged that the oath-taking was postponed due to political conspiracy.

White Paper on Irrigation Department

“We have made a unanimous decision to contest the upcoming elections from Telangana State. We are still committed to it. Whichever MLAs seek my appointment, I am ready for it even if it is KT Rama Rao, KCR or T Harish Rao and allocate time for them,” the TPCC president said. On budget sessions, Revanth Reddy said that allocations will be made to the schemes promised to the public during the elections. A white paper will be released on the irrigation department in the upcoming Assembly sessions, he added.

The chief minister said that a vigilance inquiry on the irrigation department will be launched along with a judicial inquiry on the irregularities during the previous BRS regime. He also said that a decision has been taken to celebrate the birth and death anniversaries of renowned revolutionary singer and balladeer Gaddar on behalf of the State Government.
