Revanth Reddy confirms metro line from MGBS bus stand to Airport; Raidurg plan put on hold

Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced metro rail connectivity to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad from MGBS bus stand. The metro rail extension includes widening the road from Darulshifa junction to Falaknuma junction to 100 feet to help in the development of Old City.

In a meeting with the officials concerned on Tuesday, CM Revanth Reddy stated that Phase II of the Hyderabad Metro Rail must be planned to reach maximum commuters and extensions must be planned accordingly. “There are 103 religious, heritage and sensitive structures which must not be impacted due to the metro rail,” said CM Revanth Reddy.

Old City metro rail

Currently, the metro rail connection is only to the MGBS bus stand in the Old City. The new proposal includes widening the road from Darulshifa junction to Shalibanda junction and planning the metro rail accordingly.

Revanth Reddy said that the public representatives of Old City will be involved in planning the metro rail route. Reddy told officials, that if required, he would personally inspect the area. Old City metro rail has become a prestigious issue as that part of the city has no metro connectivity with the rest of the city. In the original plan, the metro rail would reach Falaknuma junction. However, that plan could not be carried out.

Old City alignment

The metro alignment is planned from MGBS to Falaknuma via Darulshifa junction. The metro rail will go from Purani Haveli, Ettebar Chowk, Alijakotla, Mir Momin Daira, Haribowli, Shalibanda, Shamsheergunj and Aliabad. Five stations will placed at Salarjung Museum, Charminar, Shalibanda, Shamsheergunj and Falakumna. The 5.5-kilometer stretch will lead to notices to 1,000 properties.

Raidurg to Shamshabad metro on hold

The chief minister said that the Airport metro plan from Raidurg to Shamshabad Airport (31 km) costing Rs 6,250 crores will be kept on hold since both locations are currently connected by a wide Outer Ring Road (ORR).

Airport metro connection from Old City

Apart from planning airport metro connectivity from MGBS via Old City, CM Revanth Reddy announced metro stretches in other areas. This includes bridging the gap between LB Nagar metro stations and Nagole metro stations, a distance of 5 km.

Revanth Reddy asked officials to examine the feasibility of laying a part of the Metro in the Laxmiguda-Jalpally-Mamidipally stretch at road level (At Grade) in the new alignment since a 40 ft wide central median without any obstructions is available in this stretch. This can reduce the cost of metro rail construction.

Brief look at extensions planned for Metro Rail

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) will prepare extensions of the existing metro corridors to nearby destinations to facilitate the growth of the city in all directions on the following lines:

1. Miyapur-Chandanagar–BHEL–Patancheruvu (14 km).

2. MGBS–Falaknuma–Chandrayanagutta–Mailardevpalli–P7 Road–Airport (23 km).

3. Nagole–LBNagar–Owaisi Hospital–Chandrayanagutta–Mailardevepalli–Aramgarh–New High Court site at Rajendranagar on NH (adjacent to Agricultural University main gate) (19 km).
