New Delhi: Centre has declared seven days of state mourning from December 26, 2024, to January 1, 2025, as a mark of respect to former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
In a PIB release, the government said that the national flag will be flown at half-mast throughout India. There will be no official entertainment during the period of state mourning.
State funeral accorded to Dr Singh
The government has decided that a state funeral will be accorded to late Dr Manmohan Singh. The National flag shall also fly half-mast on the day of the funeral in all Indian Missions/High Commissions of India abroad. The cabinetto meet today at 11 am to decide on the state funeral to be accorded to Dr Singh.
India leaders mourn death
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the passing away of former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh. "India mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished leaders, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji," Modi stated.
Prime Minister, Narendra Modi remarked that Dr. Manmohan Singh rose from humble origins to become a respected economist. As our Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh made extensive efforts to improve peopleās lives."
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi said, "Manmohan Singh led India with immense wisdom and integrity. His humility and deep understanding of economics inspired the nation. My heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Kaur and the family. I have lost a mentor and guide. Millions of us who admired him will remember him with the utmost pride.
Telangana and Karnataka have declared state holiday and seven days of mourning
Telangana and Karnataka governments have also declared a state holiday as a mark of respect for Dr Singh.
